Vigo hosts the launch of AOFFTECH, the European project boosting floating offshore wind

24 de February de 2026

Strengthening the floating offshore wind industry value chain in the Atlantic Area. This is the main objective of Atlantic Offshore Tech (AOFFTECH), a project funded under the Interreg Atlantic Area programme, which officially kicked off this week in Vigo.

The official launch of AOFFTECH took place at the headquarters of Asociación de Industrias del Metal y Tecnologías Asociadas de Galicia (ASIME), the project lead partner. “Transnational cooperation is essential to boost floating offshore wind technology in the Atlantic Area,” emphasized Enrique Mallón (ASIME) and Joint Secretary Carlos Garea.

During the launch event, Carlos Garea also expressed his support for establishing links with other offshore wind initiatives, including HiPoTeSis. This initiative includes the development of testing infrastructures for marine renewable energies and could therefore complement AOFFTECH’s efforts in the field of offshore renewable energy.

AOFFTECH strengthens collaboration among partners

Project partners attended a training session focused on the use of SIGI, the Atlantic Area programme’s project management platform.

The meeting also enabled progress on key aspects such as methodologies and the project work plan. A major advantage of the session was the participation of the Project Manager from the Interreg Atlantic Area Joint Secretariat, who was present to clarify doubts and facilitate the implementation of AOFFTECH. Direct interaction with the programme representative helped address fundamental issues and provided recommendations to optimise processes.

Furthermore, the event contributed to consolidating the consortium and strengthening ties among project partners.

A closer look at the Port of Vigo

Beyond training and technical discussions, participants had the opportunity to visit the Autoridad Portuaria de Vigo facilities, in an activity organised by ASIME in
collaboration with the Port Authority and Termavi, a company belonging to the Davila Group.

At the port, attendees explored the ro-ro platform and learned in detail about the history of the Port of Vigo. They also discovered key logistics areas, including the
container handling and loading zone. The visit included a tour of the control offices, where port representatives explained the operational management of goods transport.

AOFFTECH: 5 countries and over €2 million in funding

AOFFTECH is built on a transnational and collaborative approach, bringing together 11 organisations from five European countries: Spain, Portugal, France, Ireland and
Norway.

With a total budget of €2.4 million, 75% co-financed by ERDF funds, the project aims to accelerate the energy transition and strengthen the strategic autonomy of the Atlantic region.
